Greater New York Group of CA
Group Structure, Governance, and Financial Oversight
The Greater New York Group of CA operates as a unified fellowship entity—one body with many meetings. The Greater New York Group of CA is the recognized entity within the fellowship. Each meeting belongs to the Greater New York Group of CA, and the Greater New York Group of CA carries the spiritual and administrative authority to maintain its own integrity, structure, and message.
Greater New York Group of CA Authority
The Greater New York Group of CA is the central governing body.
Meetings themselves are not autonomous; they function under the direction and spirit of the Greater New York Group of CA as a whole. Each meeting reflects the Group’s conscience, adheres to approved Cocaine Anonymous literature, and upholds the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and Twelve Concepts for World Service.
The Greater New York Group of CA maintains its own Steering Committee, composed of trusted servants elected through group conscience. Positions may include:
-
Group Chairperson
-
Vice Chairperson
-
Treasurer
-
Secretary
-
GSR or World Service Liaison
-
H&I and Public Information Coordinators
-
Meeting Chairpersons (appointed positions)
These positions exist to facilitate service, not to govern. Leadership is exercised through humility, accountability, and transparency—guided always by the principles of recovery and the collective conscience of the Greater New York Group of CA.
Financial Structure
All finances are held at the Greater New York Group of CA level.
Meetings may collect voluntary contributions, but those funds are turned over to the Greater New York Group of CA Treasurer for accounting and distribution in accordance with the Seventh Tradition:
“Every C.A. group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.”
The Group maintains:
-
A single Group bank account under its own name and tax identification number (EIN).
-
Transparent treasury records reviewed at monthly business meetings.
-
A consistent reporting process so all members may participate in financial decisions.
-
Clear policies for prudent reserve and responsible disbursement.
This unified structure ensures:
-
Financial integrity and legal protection.
-
Centralized accountability.
-
Transparency between members and leadership.
-
Freedom from outside influence or conflict over money, property, or prestige.
Meetings Under the Greater New York Group of CA
The Greater New York Group of CA may hold any number of meetings—daily, weekly, or monthly.
Each meeting operates under the Greater New York Group of CA charter, spiritual principles, and service structure. Meetings are approved, supported, and registered through the Greater New York Group of CA Steering Committee and may differ by format, theme, or focus, while remaining unified under one name and one purpose: to carry the message of Cocaine Anonymous.
Meetings must:
-
Begin with the C.A. Preamble.
-
Use only Cocaine Anonymous–approved literature.
-
Follow formats consistent with the Twelve Traditions and Greater New York Group of CA.
-
Conduct themselves in the spirit of anonymity, equality, and recovery.
The Greater New York Group of CA may establish new meetings at any time by a vote of conscience. Each new meeting becomes an official part of the Greater New York Group of CA and is covered under its financial, spiritual, and organizational structure.
Unity and Spiritual Purpose
This model preserves unity while encouraging growth.
It prevents fragmentation, fosters shared responsibility, and ensures the message remains consistent and clear. The Greater New York Group of CA belongs to its members collectively—not to any one person or personality.
Through this single structure, we practice the spiritual principle that freedom is found through responsibility, and that recovery, unity, and service are inseparable.
Our common purpose is simple:
To stay free from cocaine and all other mind-altering substances, and to help others achieve that same freedom.
