Introduction to Service
Greater New York Group of CA
Service is at the heart of Cocaine Anonymous. It is one of the three pillars of our program—alongside Recovery and Unity—and it is how we keep the fellowship strong, the message clear, and our own sobriety grounded in spiritual action.
In Greater New York Group of CA, service isn’t about recognition, status, or control. It’s about responsibility, humility, and gratitude in motion. We give freely what was freely given to us, so that anyone, anywhere, who reaches out for help may find the hand of C.A. waiting.
Service takes many forms:
-
Sharing honestly at meetings.
-
Setting up chairs or making coffee.
-
Greeting newcomers at the door.
-
Sponsoring or mentoring another addict.
-
Participating in group conscience or business meetings.
-
Helping with literature, treasuries, or outreach.
-
Supporting our Group’s trusted servants or service committees.
Every act of service matters.
Through service, we learn how to step outside ourselves. We grow in patience, empathy, and accountability. We strengthen our own recovery while helping others discover theirs.
No one is required to serve—but those who do often find that service deepens their recovery in ways they never expected. It transforms isolation into belonging, fear into purpose, and self-pity into gratitude.
If you’re new, there’s a place for you here—to help, to learn, to connect.
If you’ve been around for a while, there’s someone who needs your experience and guidance.
We believe service is the lifeblood of this fellowship—a living expression of love, gratitude, and freedom.
Join us in service. Help us carry the message.
Together, we recover.
